Better known as the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Annex. There are some incredible machines there, and I took many many pictures, which will come later. For now though, here is a sneak peak.

But seriously, awesome place. I visited a few years back and was so thrilled. We spent an entire day there, and that's what it takes to see everything. I want to go back to see Discovery. They still had Enterprise when I was there.

Shit, Hangar One is in awful condition today. The US Government (in their infinite wisdom) decided to remove the skin from the hangar because it was full of lead and asbestos, or some nonsense. Like, how about just telling people not to go lick the damn thing! So after they removed the skin, they announced that they lacked the funds to re-skin it. They left it naked for 2 years at the time of my departure.

When I left NASA Ames last March, Hangar One looked like this:

Yup, I have a satellite office down the street in Sunnyvale that I go to every month or so. Drive past it every time I'm there and shed a little tear. Didn't Google buy or lease it with the intention to restore it?

I worked in the big wind tunnel at Ames for about 5 years and looked that that poor structure every day. At first I was sad because nobody was allowed to go in there (due to "bad stuff"), and then they trashed it without a plan on how to move forward. I just hope they can restore it to it's past glory before it's too late.

And yeah, I believe they did finally reach an agreement with Google.
